When we think of family violence, we often think of physical harm. But abuse can take many forms, and not all of them leave visible marks.
Family violence may include:
💜 Emotional or verbal abuse, including threats, humiliation, and intimidation.
💜 Financial abuse, such as controlling someone’s access to money or employment.
💜 Isolation from friends, family, and community supports.
💜 Controlling behaviours, including monitoring someone’s movements, communication, or decisions.
Recognizing these behaviours is an important step toward prevention.
No one should have to live in fear or feel controlled in their own home.
Awareness creates understanding. Understanding helps create safer communities.
If you or someone you know needs support, Alberta’s Family Violence Info Line is available 24 hours a day at 310-1818.
