When an emergency happens, getting accurate information quickly can help you make informed decisions to protect yourself, your family and your property.
Alberta Emergency Alert (AEA) is the Province of Alberta’s emergency alerting system. It provides information about emergencies and disasters throughout Alberta, including emergencies that may affect the Village of Clive and surrounding area.
Residents are encouraged to become familiar with Alberta Emergency Alert and download the app before an emergency happens.

What is Alberta Emergency Alert?
Alberta Emergency Alert is used to warn the public about emergencies that could affect their safety.
Depending on the emergency, alerts may be issued by local authorities, police, Alberta 511 or Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Alerts tell you:
- What is happening
- Where it is happening
- Who may be affected
- What action you should take
Alerts may be issued for wildfires, floods, severe weather, hazardous materials, dangerous water conditions, police emergencies and other serious events.
Know the Alert Levels
🔴 CRITICAL — Take Action Now
A Critical Alert means there is an immediate threat to life or safety and you need to take action.
You may be instructed to evacuate, shelter in place, avoid an area or take another immediate protective action.
Read the entire alert and follow the instructions provided.
🟡 ADVISORY — Prepare to Take Action
An Advisory Alert means there is a potential threat and you should be prepared to act if the situation changes.
Stay informed, monitor updates and be prepared to follow further instructions.
⚪ TEST ALERT — System Testing in Progress
Test alerts are used to make sure Alberta’s emergency alerting system is working properly. Province-wide tests are generally conducted twice each year, in May and November.
How Will I Receive an Emergency Alert?
You do not need the Alberta Emergency Alert app to receive emergency alerts through Canada’s public alerting system.
Emergency alerts can be distributed through compatible wireless devices, television, radio and other channels.
Wireless alerts are geographically targeted to affected areas and are automatically sent to compatible devices. You cannot opt out of receiving these emergency alerts.
Occasionally, you may receive an alert even if you are outside the affected area because of the range of nearby broadcast equipment. Always read the alert and check the location identified in the message.
Why Download the Alberta Emergency Alert App?
While emergency alerts can automatically reach compatible wireless devices, the Alberta Emergency Alert app gives you additional options to stay informed.
The app allows you to:
- Select locations in Alberta that are important to you
- Monitor more than one location
- Choose the types of advisory alerts you want to receive
- Use location-based alerting
- View affected areas and emergency information
For example, you may want to monitor Clive as well as another community where your children, parents or other family members live.
Set Up the App Before You Need It
After downloading the app:
- Allow notifications.
- Add Clive as a location you want to monitor.
- Add any other locations that are important to you.
- Review which Advisory Alerts you want to receive.
- Consider enabling Follow Me for alerts based on your current location.
- Check your phone’s notification and location permissions.
Taking a few minutes to set up the app now means you won’t be trying to figure it out during an emergency.
What Should I Do When I Receive an Alert?
Read the entire alert. It will provide important information and instructions specific to the emergency.
Look for:
📍 LOCATION — Where is the emergency? Are you in the affected area?
⚠️ HAZARD — What is happening?
➡️ ACTION — What are you being asked to do?
Follow the instructions provided and continue monitoring trusted sources for updates. Conditions can change quickly during an emergency.
What About My Privacy?
Receiving a wireless emergency alert does not mean emergency officials are tracking your phone.
Alert issuers do not receive or retain your personal or contact information when an alert is sent. Alerts are sent to compatible devices within a targeted geographic area rather than to individual residents.
